New Position for Academic Administrator, Public History Initiative

Under the supervision of the Chair of the History Department, the Public History Initiative (PHI) Director manages and coordinates a variety of programs and projects that seek to bridge the divide between the academy and the broader public. To that end, PHI administers undergraduate internships, the National Center for History in the Schools, and other public facing endeavors. In addition, the Director will teach three courses a year, at least one in public or applied history, and others in that area or in his/her field of expertise, as appropriate.

The Director of the PHI is responsible for overseeing all PHI activities. The Director is responsible for vetting internship sites for undergraduate interns as well maintaining and expanding community partnerships for internship placement. The Director is also responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the PHI and all related events, programming, and curricular initiatives in consultation with the Chair of the department.

Minimum requirements for the position are a Ph.D. in History or related field; and experience teaching and mentoring at the university level. Candidates with knowledge of research and educational trends in public history as well as experience in course development, program management, grant-writing, and in securing extra-mural funding are especially encouraged to apply.
