Professor Emeritus Chris Ehret Consultant for PBS Series Which Airs Beginning February 27th

Christopher Ehret has been working as a primary advisor on the PBS series, The Great Civilizations of Africa, produced by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.  It will be airing on PBS stations nationwide on the evenings of February 27, March 1 and March 2.The schedule for the PBS airing of the series is as follows:                 Monday, February 27, 9-11 PST:  episode 1, Africa up to 300 CE                                                                        episode 2, Africa, 300-900 CE                 Wednesday, March 1, 9-11 PST:  episodes 3 and 4, Africa, 900-1500 CE                 Thursday, March 2, 9-11 PST:      episode 5, Africa, 1500-1800 CE                                                                        episode 6, Africa in the 19th centuryThe series takes us from the common origins in Africa of the modern ancestors of everyone of us living today down to the end of the 19th century.  The trailer for the series can now be viewed at:  http://www.pbs.org/video/2365927006/.  Along with Dr. Ehret, one of the other three primary advisors to the final production also has a connection to UCLA.  Professor John Thornton of Boston University was a 1979 African history UCLA Ph.D. (his advisor was Ned Alpers) and is one of the major figures of the African history field today.  So this PBS series might seem a Harvard production, but underneath it all it is very much a UCLA production as well.
