Ben Madley Awarded 2021-2022 Huntington Dana and David Dornsife Fellowship
Ben Madley has been awarded a 2021-2022 Huntington Dana and David Dornsife Fellowship for his project Forgotten Forty-Niners: Native American Miners in the California Gold Rush and the Making of the Modern World.
Ben is an historian of Native America, the United States, and colonialism in world history. He writes about Native Americans as well as colonialism in Africa, Australia, and Europe, often employing a transnational and comparative approach. He is the author of five book chapters while his nine articles have appeared in journals ranging from The American Historical Review and European History Quarterly to Pacific Historical Review. Yale University Press published his first book, An American Genocide: The United States and the California Indian Catastrophe, 1846-1873, in 2016.
