Dr. Samuel Lamontagne Joins UC Riverside as Assistant Professor

Congratulations to Dr. Samuel Lamontagne, who has accepted a position as an assistant professor in the Department of Music at UC Riverside. Dr. Lamontagne held a UC Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at the UCLA Department of History for the past two years, after earning his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at UCLA. His dissertation “Deconstructing Hip Hop: Black Popular Music beyond the Politics of Ghetto Discourses,” focuses on Black Los Angeles music histories through hip hop creative practices and critical knowledges. Dr. Lamontagne’s research interests are centered on Black music histories and their relationship to Pan-African solidarities.
