Barry Goldenberg (History ’11) Publishes New Book on Multicultural Education

The UCLA History Department congratulates Barry Goldenberg, Class of 2011 alumnus and recipient of the Carey McWilliams Award for Top Honors Thesis, on the release of his new book, Strength through Diversity: Harlem Prep and the Rise of Multiculturalism (Rutgers University Press, 2025).

Barry went on to complete his Ph.D. at Columbia University and currently serves as a lecturer at the University of California, Irvine. Barry credits his transformative academic journey to his time at UCLA under the mentorship of Professor Emeritus Joan Waugh.

His book explores the pivotal role of Harlem Prep in the rise of multicultural education, offering a compelling narrative about diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
