Chase Caldwell Smith awarded McNeil Center for Early American Studies (MCEAS) Fellowship
Congratulations to PhD candidate, Chase Caldwell Smith, for being awarded the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Fellowship in Early American Religious Studies by the McNeil Center at the University of Pennsylvania. This prestigious award will support research and writing for his dissertation, “Contentious Matters: Debating the Material and Visual Sacred in Early Colonial Mexico.” Chase will spend the 2026-27 academic year in residence at the McNeil Center in Philadelphia.
