Professor Emeritus Thomas Hines Passes Away
We regret to announce that Professor Tom Hines passed away on July 26 at the age of 90. Born in Oxford, MS, Tom earned his BA degree from the University of Mississippi in 1958 and his Ph.D. in history at the University of Wisconsin in 1971. He was UCLA Professor in the departments of History and Architecture since 1974. A Getty and Guggenheim scholar, an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Hines made many pioneering contributions to the interdisciplinary study of 20th-century architecture and to the history of modernism in Los Angeles and southern California.
