Julian Kaptanian is a second year Ph.D. student in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology field. Her research focuses on reproductive history in Soviet and Post-Soviet Armenia. She is interested in the role of states and empires in the memory and construct of motherhood, birth, and medical systems. Julian’s work has been supported by the Consortium for History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, the National Association for Armenian Studies, UCLA's Women Center, the Promise Armenia Institute of UCLA, the Armenia General Benevolent Union, and the Huys Foundation.
