My current project is an environmental history of the League of Nations, predecessor to the United Nations, in Geneva. The hope is to understand how the isolated, provincial Swiss city has become one of the world’s leading international centers; and how the supposedly unbound interwar liberal internationalist spirit that underwrote the League became fixed in place as the “Spirit of Geneva”.
