Biography
I am a PhD Candidate in History specializing in modern South Asia and the Middle East. My PhD dissertation explores print culture, public discourses, and the politics of nationalism in Afghanistan in the mid-twentieth century. I examine competing visions of Afghan nationhood and the transformation of the categories of qawm (as ethnicity), race, and religion through state institutions, print culture, the development of the publics, and transnational intellectual exchanges.
