Sekai wa Fusei ni Michiteiru: Kaiso, Byodo, and Aratana-jinbunchi (The World is filled with Injustice – Hierarchies, Equality, and a New Horizon of Humanistic Knowledge)
UCLA History Professor, Katsuya Hirano, co-authored Sekai wa Fusei ni Michiteiru: Kaiso, Byodo, and Aratana-jinbunchi (The World is filled with Injustice – Hierarchies, Equality, and a New Horizon of Humanistic Knowledge) with Junichi Isomae, Naoki Sakai, and Wang Hui. It was published by Hosei University Press (Tokyo).
Learning is the power to face our uncertainties, injustices, and anxieties, and the will to verbalize them. In a global capitalist society where ultranationalist populism dominates and the rightward shift of society continues, Junichi Isomae, Naoki Sakai, Katsuya Hirano and Wang Hui come together to discuss the potential of the humanities. They draw on ideas and histories from around the world to continue the dialogue about an increasingly turbulent and violent world. This is the record of a symposium in which the four participants collectively explore visions of democracy, freedom, equality, the state, and subjectivity under postcolonial conditions.
