Shameful Victory: The Los Angeles Dodgers, the Red Scare, and the Hidden History of Chavez Ravine

This, the first full-length history of the major scandal caused by the eviction of Mexican Americans from their barrio – subequently being left without housing owing to the cancellation of the proposed public housing replacement –  takes the story of the barrio back to the Mexican Revolution, and forward to its effects on the 1960s civil rights movement, and on subsequent legislation to reform LA’s urban renewal policies. It also provides the first account of the cultural legacy of the evictions in terms of Chicano/a poetry, mural art, and prose.
