Memorial for Esteemed Historian Leonard Pitt

UCLA History Ph.D, 1961With sadness, we announce the passing of esteemed historian Dr. Leonard Pitt. After earning his PhD in history at UCLA in 1961, Dr. Pitt enjoyed a long and illustrious career on the faculty at California State University, Northridge. He also was a visiting professor in our department. His 1966 book The Decline of Californios remains a classic. With his wife Dale, Pitt authored Los Angeles A to Z: An Encyclopedia of the City and County. Originally published in 1997, a revised edition of Los Angeles A to Z is forthcoming.
